Apple and Honey Scones

  • 2 c All-purpose flour
  • 2/3 c Wheat germ
  • 2 ts Baking powder
  • 1 ts Ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 ts Baking soda
  • 1/4 ts Salt
  • 1/4 ts Ground nutmeg
  • 1/3 c Butter or margarine; cold
  • 1 lg Tart apples; peeled and chop

  • 1/2 c Milk
  • 1/4 c Honey
  • Topping
  • 2 ts Wheat germ
  • 2 ts Sugar
  • 1/4 ts Ground cinnamon
Recipe by: Country Woman March/April 1997 In a large bowl, combine
flour,wheat germ, baking powder, cinnamon, baking soda, salt and nutmeg.
Cut in the butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. combine the
apple, milk and honey; add to dry ingredients just until moistened. Turn
onto a floured surfac, knead gently 5-6 times. Gently patt dough into a
9-in. circle, 1/2 in. thick. Combine topping ingredients; sprinkle over
dough. Cut into eight wedges and place on a greased baking sheet. Bake at
400 degrees for 15-18 minutes.
